Mufti Day

On Friday, we are holding a Mufti Day in support of Quinn, a little girl living with cancer.

SPCA Visit

Yesterday, the ex All Black, Norm Hewitt, came to visit our school and talk about the connection between cruelty to animals and violence in the home. He was a fantastic speaker and captured us with his humorous anecdotes and enthusiasm.

Below is the website for the programme he is supporting the SPCA with. It's called "One of the Family." Check it out.

Wolf in the Wardrobe

3dom has just finished the fantastic book, Wolf in the Wardrobe. It is set in Wellington NZ so it was easy for us to relate to the characters and their experiences. It has some wonderful examples of language features and it inspired us in our own writing. It was full of humour and suspense. It also had some great twists that kept us guessing.

We would definitely recommend this book as a great read.

Harlem Shake

Today 3dom did the Harlem Shake secretly in Mr Codyre, the principals office. We got into crazy costumes and this is how it turned out.

Specific Adjectives and Verbs

Today, we kicked boring words to the kerb and looked at how to use a Thesaurus. We then created word clouds to present our new words.

Magazine Covers

In 3dom, we have designed and created magazine covers all about who we are. Imagine if you had a magazine created about you and your life. What would it be called?

We first looked at examples of excellent magazine covers. We broke these down and decided on key elements we would need to create our own. This formed our WILF or success criteria.

We then had a tutorial on how to use Pages to create these covers. We learned lots of tips and tricks like how to use Instand Alpha and the benefits of choosing a 'blank canvas' rather than a 'word processing' doc.

W.A.L.T.  design and create a magazine cover that reflects who we are.

W.I.L.F:

One major cover line
An image that fills the page
You feature on the cover
Effective layout

Effective colour themes
Magazine title is original and reflects you
Cover lines link to the magazine about you
Pages used then exported as a PDF
Barcode and price of magazine included
May include a slogan for magazine
Examples on Dropbox used to help guide you
Planning evident in Inquiry book

Out of Bounds

Do you know what areas of our school are out of bounds? Here is a poster that reminds us where we shouldn't be during school hours.

Comment on this post below and tell me the four areas that are out of bounds as shown on this poster. Be specific. First person to answer correctly, will win themselves a Choice Award.

Illusion Art

In class with Miss Gibson for the last two days we have been doing some illusion art. We made it look like you are standing on glass ground with your hands and feet on the ground. Below are some students art. Hope you like it!
